Dragonfly Studio

Agriculture & Food Production-Arts-Food & Beverage

Dragonfly Studio Gallery and Café in Hagensborg, believes in supporting the local economy by sourcing arts, crafts, jewellery and seasonally available food ingredients from their local friends and farmers. “We believe in supporting sustainability and creating an environment where things are made with love and care,” says owner and artist, Tahirih Goffic.

Patrons will find locally made clothing, jewellery, artwork, gift items, books and pottery at Dragonfly Studio. The café/gallery has comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, a lending library and bookstore as well as free WiFi for guests. All of their baked goods are made from scratch on site in their teeny tiny kitchen where they serve Oso Negro Coffee, a fair trade and organic coffee roasted in small batches in Nelson, BC.

A highlight of Dragonfly Studio is their 1952 Hamilton Beach milkshake maker that was made in an era where quality counted. Dragonfly also believes that quality counts and customers can tell by the delicious foods they have available. The café offers a variety of refreshments including milkshakes made with hard ice cream, real fruit smoothies and many hot and iced specialty coffees. Their breakfast and lunch menu consists of a variety of hot and cold sandwiches on home-made bread and bagels as well as breakfast items made with farm fresh eggs when they are available.

Meet Tahirih Goffic

Tahirih has been an entrepreneur since she was a child when she first offered horseback rides to neighbourhood children for 25 cents a ride. She's always preferred working for herself and enjoys owning Dragonfly Studio where she is happy to have control over her products and menu. She enjoys imagining and designing the café space and personally meeting all of the people that walk through her door. She's proud that people seem to love her Dragonfly Studio, it's a popular and busy spot. She appreciates how through her business she has been able to know the people that live and work around her.

Everything seems easier in Hagensborg, says Tahirih, where life is less rushed and more laid back. "There aren't the line-ups and the sense that everyone is in a hurry," said Tahirih, "people are generally relaxed and pleasant." Tahirih married and had children in Hagensborg and enjoys spending time with her family, painting, crafting, running and reading. In Hagensborg the vast wilderness is at your doorstep. There are so many fantastic sites nearby and Tahirih recommends Clayton Falls, the Petroglyphs and Blue Jay Lake because they have untouched wilderness. "There is so much here for the avid outdoorsmen," said Tahirih, "you can hike for hours without seeing a single soul, just bring your bear bells and bear spray!"

Tahirih has noticed quite a few new small businesses opening up in the last few years. "I feel that small business is the future for our town," said Tahirih, "our economic sustainability will depend on it." She loves the Little Nook Café and the Tse Tse Fly Gallery.
