Meet Ida Eriksen
Ida Eriksen has a deep love for the West coast as she has the talented ability to look around and see art in everything that nature gives us. Her brain is always twisting and turning around artwork, finding herself regularly bringing home items that she will turn into sculptures.
Being an entrepreneur has always been in the cards for Ida and as far back as she can remember, she has been interested in starting businesses for herself. “I retired here and wanted something to do,” says Ida. “I love making things that people like to buy and being able to earn a bit of money by using my creativity.”
Ida is grateful that her small town gives her the ability to bond with her customers on a much deeper level and notes how appreciative she is to belong to an extremely supportive community, happily admitting that she much prefers to shop at the local mom and pop businesses in town. Places like the Little Nook Cafe, the Dragonfly studio, Mountain Organics, Wild Craft studio , Creekside Studio and Nusatsum Studio are a few that she enjoys the most.
It’s no surprise that Ida’s favourite part of Bella Coola is the breathtaking scenery that surrounds it. She loves that she is able to be so close to nature and spends her free days gardening or hiking. “There are areas where one can hike for hours and not meet another soul,” she explains. According to Ida, the small community has become increasingly tourist-friendly in recent years. She is optimistic about the local economy and believes that businesses that have any sort of tourism involvement, will most likely see success.
