Meet Garrett & Skye Newkirk

Meet Garrett & Skye Newkirk

Four years ago Garrett and Skye became entrepreneurs and started Inner Coast Inlet Tours. They knew there was a market for guided ocean tours and they wanted to work where they lived. It was important for Garrett to work close to his family and he appreciates being able to come home every night to see his daughter.

Garrett and Skye love Bella Coola for the breath taking scenery, the quiet wilderness, the slower pace of life and the very friendly community. Living in a small town allows you get to know the whole community. "It's like one big family," said Skye, "your neighbour is always there to help." They enjoy exploring their surrounding wilderness by hiking, skiing, rock climbing, kayaking and camping with their family. Around the home they like gardening and relaxing with a good book on a rainy days. Skye notes that skiing in the remote mountains is worth the effort because they are so untouched.

In the last few years both Garrett and Skye have noticed a welcome growth in the local area tourism industry. Garrett enjoys being part of this growing tourism industry with their business. There have also been some lovely additions to the already great local business options. Garrett feels optimistic about the future of small businesses in Bella Coola and notes some new coffee shops and a health food store in town have opened up recently. Garrett and Skye are also the proud owners and operators of Tallheo Cannery Guest House.
