Meet Carsten Ginsburg & Tom Hermance

Carsten and his business partner, Tom Hermance, realized there weren't any accommodations at the town's ocean inlet and together they wanted visitors to experience the natural beauty of the estuary and coast. They opened the Float House Inn and Carsten admits, "it took a lot of labour and hard work to become what it is." But their efforts have been rewarded by rave reviews online, praise in the guest books and even nominations for top accommodation lists. Carsten likes being an entrepreneur and enjoys meeting people from all over the world through the Float House Inn.

Carsten loves the friendly and easy-going people in Hagensborg that are always so helpful and considerate. "There are many artists here which keeps life here beautiful and unexpected," said Carsten. The Central Coast has everything - wilderness, the coast and a road to get here. Carsten enjoys gardening and being out on the ocean. A very special spot for Carsten is North Bentick Arm because, "of its profound beauty and remoteness." Carsten is passionate about the valley and the importance of the Great Bear Rainforest.

Carsten is an active volunteer with Bella Coola Valley Tourism and feels his coastal town is transitioning from a resource based economy to a tourism based economy. "Tourism will grow," said Carsten, "and I encourage more people to attempt small businesses." Carsten says that all money spent locally stays in the community which helps ensure the town's future. He appreciates the variety of local businesses and frequents Mountain Valley Organics, Moore's Organic Nursery Garden Centre, Little Nook Café, Firefly Studios, Creekside Studios and the Copper Sun Gallery.
